Spelling and Vocabulary
We are moving away from the simple memorization of spelling words at the junior high level, and moving more toward learning word meanings and word parts which can be generalized to learning new vocabulary and more difficult words. We do still have a basic list of "No Excuse Words" (high frequency words) which are posted on the classroom wall, and which students are responsible for knowing how to spell.
We do one spelling/vocabulary lesson per week. Tests are usually on Fridays. Spelling packets should be completed and turned on or before the day of the test.
Following are the projected due dates for the next few lessons:
Lesson 25: Week of April 2 - 6
word parts "-jur, jud" =law, justice, judge
"trans" = across, beyond, change
"auto" = self
Note: Several students will need to study and retake the spelling test for Lesson 24. It is due by April 6 (Friday).
This is a free website where kids can practice vocabulary with games and flashcards online. Your child does not need to sign up for an account to access the site. However, if your child does sign up for a (free) account, he or she can create his/her own games from vocabulary words from world geography, science, etc.
